What is Club Volleyball? Volleyball Clubs are private organizations, not affiliated with a school team. Clubs offer organized volleyball instruction and team competition. Generally, they join their regional chapter of the United States Volleyball Association, such as the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA). The NCVA organizes the leagues (Power League and Area League), the tournaments, and tracks each team’s performance. Volleyball Clubs in Northern California require players to join the association as they also provide group liability insurance which each gym facility requires as a condition for any group to practice or compete. Morgan Hill Volleyball Club is part of the NCVA (www.ncva.com) and also participates in JVA tournaments.
How long is the club season?
Fall Co-Ed Competition Season: September-October Boys Club Season: Aug-Dec Girls Club Season: November-May Sand Volleyball Season: June-July
Our regular girls Club season starts in November (tournaments start in January) and ends in May. High School Tryouts are normally held the last weekend of July and Junior High tryouts are in October. There are 2 practices a week with on average 6-8 tournaments. Each tournament allows players the approximate game time of a school season. The skill progression which occurs in players that participate in club Volleyball is instrumental in their success at the high school and collegiate level.
What is the difference between the Premier and Power Leagues? There are 2 NCVA leagues, Premier and Power.
Premier teams play and practice locally, therefore requiring less of a time commitment for traveling. The Premier teams will play in all of the scheduled NCVA Area League tournaments and two other travel tournaments that include power teams such as NCVA non-leagues and President’s Day and Great America or Spring Classic Tournaments.
Power teams require more of a commitment. They will play in all of the NCVA Power league tournaments and at least 2 Power league extra tournaments.
Power Hybrid teams will participate in local league tournaments but will also be entered into scheduled travel
How are teams divided? By age group and then skill level. We try to limit the number of players on each team to 13 to maximize participation and playing time for each member. This year we will have 11u, 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U & 18U Girls teams and 13U, 14U. 15U, 16U, 17U & 18U Boys teams. Practices be at area Gyms in Morgan Hill and South San Jose for all teams. We set a practice schedule for the entire season, so our players and parents can plan accordingly.
What is the club’s mission?
To provide a positive life experience for our players through encouragement, leadership development, teamwork and competitive skill-building. We believe in constructive teaching and healthy leadership. We want to model a leadership style that gives positive instruction while challenging our athletes in skill development. Our coaches focus on building a growth mindset in players.
To provide all players with challenging coaches who provide the opportunity to improve fundamental, offense and defensive Volleyball skills.
To provide exposure to different levels of competition and to enhance the level of play for each of our players.
To teach values such as dedication, team work, integrity, encouragement, focus and the importance of having a positive attitude
When is practice? We practice in Morgan Hill 2-3 times a week. We plan all of our practice times and location for the duration of the season so you can plan in advance.
What is tournament format? Premier Teams have tournaments that are typically within a 45 min driving distance in the Greater Bay Area with the exception of Regionals, the Far Western Tournament and any travel tournaments we add. Single day tournaments normally run from 8AM to 4pm depending on results. Multi day tournaments are normally half days in AM or PM waves. Players will perform line judging and score-keeping duties at tournaments.
Power Teams have tournaments that can be anywhere in Northern California.

Are there scholarships available? Club Volleyball can be expensive with the average Volleyball Club in the Bay Area costing on average (5k-10k per season). We are thankful that we have been able to keep our fees under the average in the Bay Area. However, we want any player who has a desire and passion for Volleyball to have the opportunity to play club Volleyball. We will provide opportunities for fundraising for any player that has a desire to subsidize the cost of Club Volleyball and we have a 2 partial scholarships available. Please contact the Club Director if you wish to apply for a scholarship. We also offer a sibling discount. We also offer scholarships for any players in Foster Care.
